Default Review of APR Stage 3 brakes and Bilstein/Hyperco suspension.......(edited - more)

Yesterday I had my big brakes and suspension installed at Moto Persona in Lombard IL. Shout out to Rob and Steve for the hard work and late night (maybe this should read thanks to Rob's wife :-P )

APR Stage 3 Brakes

These things kick ***. While pedal feel is almost the same in terms of firmness (I had stainless lines before the big brake install), the effort required to stop is much less than with stock brakes. I can gently apply the brakes at 130 mph and then, progessively stepping harder and harder, activate the ABS, rather than having to stab at them like with the stock setup. And now, the fronts lock just a tad before the rears, as opposed to vice versa with the stock brakes. I haven't gotten a chance to REALLY wail on them, but so far there has been zero fade.

On a less important note: The also look badass! I mean REALLY badass, especially with the Black car. VERY aggressive looking. I'll try to get some pics today or this weekend.

Bilstein Hyperco suspension

They kick *** too! :-P This is a linear fixed-height setup. The rates are 450 front/500 rear. What a HUGE difference in body roll with these bad boys. Also much more controlled than before (I was using Audi/Eibach Eurosport springs and stock sport shocks - well, kinda - more on that later). Obviously, at these spring rates, the ride is a bit more involved, but totally worth it IMHO. I took "The Big Turn" on Lakeshore Drive in Chicago last night WAY fast and with practically no body roll, and I was on snows! Awesome!

<EDIT>: I set the front at second to the lowest setting of the Neuspeed Bilstein adjustable perch shocks (there are five settings in the front - ROb and I correctly guessed that Neuspeed accomodates all -including ricers - and that the lowest setting would be too low). These are the new version of the Neu Bils. They are about 1-1.5 cm (that's a half inch for you mongoloids :-P ) lower than the old Neu Bils. The front height is perfect. Just a tad lower than it was with my Eurosports, which were 1" below stock SPORT. I'd estimate the front is about 1.5" below stock sport suspension. I chose the second to lowest setting in the rear (there are four setting in the rear). This setting I'm not too sure about - it might be a bit too high for me. I'd estimate that it's about .75" higher than the Eurosport setup. That would be about .25" lower than stock sport suspension. Now, other Hyperco owners have said that they will setlle a bit, but even if they settle .25" to .5", I think I will move them down to teh lowest setting, which is .5" lower. The car has a decent rake forward to it now - too much IMHO, but I'm sure lots of people would love the look. I'd like to keep as much weigth aft as possible tho, and the center of gravity low too, so I think I'll end up going down to the lowest setting in the back. <b></EDIT></b>

One thing to note: Beware your Audi dealers!!!!!! I had one sport shock and one non-sport shock on my car in the front!!!!!!! When they installed my Eurosports, they must have broken one of my shocks or something, and thy just put on a non-sport instead! F*%KERS!!!!! And to top it off, it was on the driver's side, which happens to be the major weight bearing shock at every track event I've been to thusfar. Grrrrrrrrrrrr >:-/
