Default Rh rear wheel bearing noise question..was replaced before..

I had it replaced < 2 yrs ago and haven't hit any potholes of any size that could have caused it to go out. Do you think the tech screwed it up installing it ? I may just do it myself this time. I'm pissed that an Audi trained tech could've installed one (which is very common) and fvcked it up. Is it that difficult? I have access to a hydraulic press. I didn't do it last time because my extended warranty covers it for $100 deduct, warr. good until 9/06.

Default I wouldn't blame the tech on this, RWBs fail all the time

I wouldn't say potholes play a big role in their failure either, perhaps they are a little bit undersized. Either way, if you have a hydraulic press it isn't too difficult to do this job.

Default Forgot to mention , only 11k miles since replaced, part faulty?

I think they should last longer than that.

Default Not unheard of

Ask qfrog, I think he had a RWB give out in that time span before.

Default its not hard, the press is key... unless you cough up the cash for a hubshark...

then you can do the fronts when they go as well

Default As you may know I'm ASE certified in parts and...

I've been certified in suspension and brake when I was at another dealer. In most cars I've seen shortest sealed bearing life to be 20-30k miles but 11k is incredibly low . I would have never thought it could be somewhat common to have that short a life span. I may have to do this one then, as I plan to keep the car and should get used to doing this if its routine. Thanks for the feedback.

Default it is possible that it wasnt installed just right and as a result it had a shortened lifespan

I've also seen techs blow the bearing up during installation.
