So I am installing a riger illuminated shift **** today and I can seem to get the illumination correct. When I first installed it I traced the wires to the cig lighter and figured that the fat brown wire is for the lighter and the gray and red wires were for the illumination of the lighter. I attached the red wire from the **** to the red on the lighter and the brown wire on the **** to the gray wire on the lighter. When I did this the **** would light up when the light switch was turned off but the **** would turn off when the light switch was turned on. I tried switching the wires around and the **** won't turn on at all now. Has anyone installed one of these on their cars? I have a 99.5 A4 quat if that makes any difference.

Did you install it during the day and check it at night? What did the cig lighter Illumination do beforehand? Did it turn off when the lights were switched on also or no?

I would've tapped into 75X personally and avoided the mess.
