Default Is this the right detailing process? (involving clay bar, glaze, etc.)

1. Wash with dishsoap to remove wax.
2. Shami dry.
3. Clay bar entire car (or just the parts that need it, like where the water stains are)
4. Apply glaze. (I'm about to purchase the Porter Cable orbital polisher)
5. Immediately apply wax.
6. Dust off wax residue with diaper clothes.

I picked up the Mother's clay bar, plan on using 3M imperial machine glaze, but have not decided on which wax to use yet. (suggestions welcome)

Now I just have to find a good weekend to do all this, as I imagine it's a full day project. :/

Default Sounds good to me. You sure about the power tool?

I know people here use the orbital thingies, but personally I'm afraid. I've never used one, and I wouldn't want to learn on my A4.

Oh BTW, Blitz Wax rocks. Last forever, and very shiny.

Default Also, if you've never clay barred before, I would recommend doing the whole car....

you'll be amazed at the stuff that comes off of what appears to be clean sections. It will make a big difference especially on a dark color like Santorin.

Default With a foam pad, and glaze, there is almost no chance of burning through the paint...

now, if you used a direct drive (rotary) polisher, with a wool pad and polishing compound, on high speed and leaned on it hard, you would be into primer before you knew it.

I use my rotary for everyting but wax, but it's all in the touch. It actually does a really nice jog with IHG, but I don't really work the pad very much, I more or less just use it to apply the IGH because it goes much faster. I always wax by hand.

Default It's all I use, and many have seen the results on my car.

No chance of burn. I have put it on 6k rpms with weight on it, in one place with NO burn, and NO damage. The only thing that can go wrong is if the backing plate contacts the paint, then it will scar it.

Here is my previous car; this is just after a heavy buffing with the RA orbital. absolutely NO swirls even after a year of ownership.

Default Do you just rub the clay bar against the paint?

I know everyone says to keep it moist with detailer spray, but do you rub in linear motion, round?

Think I recall people saying to turn it over often, but if you get debris on it (that it picks up) do you rinse it off somehow?
