rotor question
if i wanted to get bigger rotors would i have to get new/different calipers or anything?I dont really do any autoX or anything like that that would warrant me getting a big brake kit or anything. i would just like bigger rotors to fill out the wheels when i get 18"s.

this is the lowest cost big brake setup going....
ecs sells a kit for $540 or so.<ul><li><a href="https://www.audiworld.com/tech/wheel1.shtml">https://www.audiworld.com/tech/wheel1.shtml</a</li></ul>

what is your definition of "improvement"?
By going with that kit, all you're doing is increasing the rotor surface which means the brakes can dissipate heat more effectively. This means less brake fade during frequent brake application (like at the track). During normal street driving, you shouldn't notice much difference if any at all.
That said, I drove a fellow AWer's A4 with that kit, and his brakes actually felt more effective than my stock ones, even when cold. He also had some high perf. brake fluid in there - not sure if that made a difference.

no, carriers = caliper brackets, but not the whole calipers....
Go to www.ecstuning.com to buy a whole kit for that upgrade (A8 rotors, TT carriers, and new brake pads).
The link that tgjl posted for you above explains how to do the upgrade.

actually, it also improves brake feel by moving the caliper out
think about how its easier to stop a bike wheel with your hand on the outside of the wheel than near the axis
and improved cooling
