Default Rotor Tech.. let's stir the pot!

Slotted
vs
crossdrilled
vs
cast with holes (like porsche rotors)
vs
crossdrilled + slotted
vs
smooth (like our stockers)

Which one is better, and why? Don't hold back!

Default Yeah.. I see the period. :-) Can you give your reasons?

Any concern about faster pad useage due to the groove? (more abraisive?)

I'm really just fishing for info, so any you can provide would be great!

I don't think that Porsche rotors are cast, but drilled actually.

Default Pot is stirred....

1. Solid -- works best, is cheapest.
2. Slotted -- works well, eats pads quicker, looks cool.
3. Crossdrilled with cast holes -- works well, eats pads quicker, looks cool, costs mucho dinero.
4. Crossdrilled with drilled holes -- disco.
5. Crossdrilled and slotted -- "hey baby, you want to go for a ride in my love machine?" ;P

Default slotted.

Better than smooth stock, keeps the rotors a little cooler, however, u don't loose that much rotor surface like a true cross drilled.
If your car is not going to see major track events and if u don't race on sunday and get payed on Monday(sponsored)$$$$...
Slotted is the way to go!!

Default Not true.

Slots don't help to keep the rotor cooler. On the contrary, slots will tend to make the rotor hotter, because you're taking away mass that would otherwise absorb heat.

In theory, slots DO make it easier to vent pad outgassing, thus reducing fade, but I haven't found a consensus of how big a problem pad outgassing is with modern pad materials. Some say it's no longer an issue. (I'd love to find a definitive answer to that question.)

Default Slotted and don't worry about pad wear...

Drilled rotors are prone to crack for the follow reasons:
a)inferior material used
b)heat built up and stress cracks "a"

For what you are planning to do - yesterday's post - slotted rotors will work for you.

As for pad wear - pads are cheap ($80-$150 for fronts), and they are usually good for at least a couple of years (+ 2-3 track events/yr)... so, pad wear should be a non issue.
