Rust specks on lower door and rocker

I purchased a 98 2.8 A4 peral white two weeks ago and when I was washing the car the other day, I noticed very small specks of rust behind the front wheels on the lower door and rocker. There is also a speck about halfway up the door. I closely inspected the car on purchase and did not notice them but they are definitely there now. What is the best way to take care of this before the harsh winter makes matters worse? Has anybody else had these issues? It looks like they must have come from small stones kicked up or possibly hot asphalt from road work? I would think the paint would be better protected than this. I just got rid of my 10 year old rust bucket. I didn't want to buy a new one.

If you can remove them, and the paint is not chipped then it is not surface rust. It is a common mistake to think these specs are real rust when in fact they are not.

The purpose of a clay bar, is to remove all the contaminants from your car's paint surface. Clay bars have to be used very carefully. You must read all instructions, before proceeding. Try using the search feature on this site, under "clay bar". There are some good articles on clay bars, at Carcareonline, Autopia, Zainobros.com. Read up on the clay bar, BEFORE you use it, not after the fact. If (what you have) are slight "thingies" that have attached themselves to your paint's surface, then a clay bar will be perfect for getting rid of them.
