Default S4 lowers- do I swap out the lower trim on the door too?

I want to put these on my car, but not sure if I have to just paint my existing lower trim on the bottom of the door or buy different(?) S4 ones.

Thanks

Default Maybe I should explain a little better..-

ETKA shows 8D0 853 959 B as being the lower door trim.
Also, under "S4" it shows that part #, PLUS an 8D0 853 965 B (Trim cover) that goes on top of the lower trim.

Do I need this second trim piece that mounts on top of the lower? or only the lower?

Default Re: Maybe I should explain a little better..-

you need everything..

the parts stuck on the doors need to be painted, thats the upper trim, or else that'll be black, the s4 parts run 400 or just have them painted..

than you need the sills from the S4, than you swap out the aluminum trim that says s4 with the audi one, so your not a full poser.

Than you should get some double sided tape with the hardware kit, I havent done this, but I think what you do it attach all the hardware and use the double sided tape to holded everything on there and screw the rest in, that should cover the bottom.

someone fill me in if im wrong..

in terms of parts, I dont know the #'s, its a project I'm going to be doing soon too

Default you may not need as much as you think..

I'm investigating this more and once Mister BBQzles posts some pics, I'll know for sure how much you really need.

What I'm investigating has to do with the door sills. According to Steve@MotoP, you DO NOT need to buy the S4 sills. On any car pre 99.5 I know for sure you don't, but on anything 99.5, I'm waitint for the pictures from Mister B. to see how it looks. Steve says the S4 skirt fits fine over the stock 99.5+ A4 sill (these are larger with inserts). This means you could save a few hundred bucks on the door sills and hardware for them.

What you WOULD need howeve ris ALL lower door moldings, which is almost $500 itself. BUT, if you want to go the cheaper route like Steve@MotoP did, you pull off the black moldings, shave off the pins, then put on the prepainted stick on LLtek lower door molding strips. Those are $199.

Default My car is a 98'-

HDClown- I totally follow you, but, I am not sure why I would shave off the pins/brackets, because ETKA shows the S4 uses the A4 lower trim WITH an extra trim that goes ABOVE the lower.
(I'm trying to figure if I NEED both to make it look normal)

Where's Steve@Motopersona- I know he has some great pics of his lowers-maybe I can point out my questions

I wish I knew how to post some pics, it would be so much easier to explain.
-if you have ETKA, it's illustration 853-10

Default I've got ETKA but not a twork.. I follow what you are saying..

Steve@MotoP might know whats up with that. I understandf that your saying the A4 has a part # for lower door trim, and then on the S4 sheet it uses tehs aem # plus a trim cover. I don't remember seeing that when looking on my 2001 pages but I didn't look very closely.

Gonna have to investigate that a little further.

Default I figured it out..

The 8D0 853 965 B piece is a strip piece, then the S4 cover 8D0 853 969 B would snap over the strip piece. It's a 2 part deal on the S4

The A4 cover piece (8D0 853 969 A) is a differetn piece entirely and snaps onto the door itself. Thus 1 part.

So yes, you need both strips and covers for the lower door moldings.
