Default Agree with Solaris and disagree with Greyhound Guy.

It's fine as long as you're using an approved container, and not recycled milk jugs. The containers should be sealed tightly, so they do not leak regardless of which way they may fall and slid in your trunk. That means removing the pour spout, and screwing on the cap, and closing the little air hole.

Allowing the vent hole to remain open allows gasoline vapor to escape, and eventually pollute your trunk. Since gasoline vapor in certain concentrations is very prone to ignition, you don't want this. You also don't want the tank to fall over and leak gasoline all over your interior...that would really *stink*! :-) GG's concern might be allowing for expansion if the tank is heated. Well, you shouldn't be exposing it to heat, so if you have to park the car in the sun, remove the fuel, and place it in the shade!

Default well i didnt want to, but....

it seems that APR won't sell me a few gallons :-( and i'd rather not travel out of the way to pick up some during the trip. i have a station right next door to my work where i can get some and just transport it.

Default Yes that was my concern and yes you better remove it if you are parking the car.

but even while driving it can get hot in a trunk. It's good standard practice. Luckily for him the hot probably won't happen til he gets to Georgia.

Those jugs should be tied down good either way.

Default If it is hot it might be wise to vent the tanks half way on that drive.

Gas tends to expand when it heats up, which will cause the tanks to expand with the extra pressure inside.
