I know that there was some debate earlier last month about when the dealer changed the filter during the regular service intervals. Well ... I went in this morning for my 24,000 km service (15,000 miles for you 'Mericans). Here is what I found ... Audi has instructed the dealer to change the filter at the first 2 services and then every second one after that for the duration of the warranty. So here is what I did, I have a great relationship with my service guy so we made a deal, I am bringing in my own Mobil 1 5W30 Synthetic (thanks for the recommendation guys!) so they are not using their own oil and therefore saving money. So I asked if they could change my filter at no charge. I spent $30 on oil and want a $7 filter so that is quite fair, he agreed. You may want to try same with your dealer to get a new filter with each service. It doesnt make sense to put fresh oil into a dirty filter!
