A screaming chicken invades AudiWorld . . . a foul move indeed...
So Dudes,
With my A4 total-loss claim still not resolved (thanks State Farm), I really needed to get something just to drive to my jobs and be able to go on errands.
Thus.... I bought this. For $ 1,300.
<img src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y231/Freakness/1987%20MR2/Pulled_backshotofMR2.jpg">
A 1987 Toyota MR2 with 5-speed manual transmission.
<img src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y231/Freakness/1987%20MR2/rearpassengersidequarterview.jpg">
Stock brakes are pathetic, all suspension components need an overhaul or replacement, and the 185/65 R14 wheel and tire combo.... seems a bit tiny. Current tires are an unknown M + S brand made in Poland. Scary.
<img src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y231/Freakness/1987%20MR2/Frontquarterviewwithalldoorsclosed.jpg">
Opening the hood reveals a lot of storage and no engine.
<img src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y231/Freakness/1987%20MR2/frontquarterviewwithfronttrunkup-1.jpg">
No motor but a nice spare tire, factory upper strut bar, and ZERO rust. The body of this car is in VERY good condition.
<img src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y231/Freakness/1987%20MR2/Fronttruckingreatcondition.jpg">
1587 cc motor (model 4A-GE). 16-valves and 112 horsepower pushing 2,350 pounds plus the driver. Smoking fast...... not, but damn it's fun nonetheless.
<img src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y231/Freakness/1987%20MR2/bonestock1587ccnon_interferencem-1.jpg">
Passenger-side air intake to engine.
<img src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y231/Freakness/1987%20MR2/close_upofsideairintake-1.jpg">
No rear spoiler which these cars are famous for having; I'll leave it naked for now.
<img src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y231/Freakness/1987%20MR2/Rearquarterviewwithalldoorsclosed.jpg">
A slight step down from the quality of Audi interiors I'll admit. 7,500 rpm red line anyone ?
<img src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y231/Freakness/1987%20MR2/Instrumentcluster.jpg">
But the interior is in good shape with new black carpets installed.
<img src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y231/Freakness/1987%20MR2/Cleaninteriorwithnewcarpet.jpg">
The shifter looks like a *****, not that I would know anything about that.
<img src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y231/Freakness/1987%20MR2/Dildoshifterandhandbrake.jpg">
The views around the driver are excellent. There's simply glass everywhere. Here's the view looking behind the driver's right shoulder.
<img src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y231/Freakness/1987%20MR2/Unobstructedviewlookingoutrearofcar.jpg">
I drove the car about forty miles home from Mountain View near San Jose (a.k.a. South Bay), drove up the 101 through San Francisco, and crossed the Bay Bridge over to the East Bay, and no problems. Even with the tired suspension and control arms, sucky tires, and a stretched clutch cable, the car drove way more accurately than any A4 can. I found myself constantly driving it at around 5,000 rpm and it felt and sounded great. The damn thing is light and zips EXACTLY where you want it to with ZERO hesitation. I can't wait to redo the entire suspension and feel how the car can really drive and steer. This vehicle will become my track car although it will still be a daily driver for now. I need to buy a 2nd "real" car though since the MR2 IS twenty years old and feels tiny and a bit unsafe against larger vehicles. So, I'm still looking at a replacement Audi A4. If I see one for cheap in decent condition AND State Farm gets off of its *** and settles the damn claim.... I'll be back amongst you making fun of Nate and pestering Mandeep. As it should be.
Tastes like Toyota.

El Cerrito.... girlfriend is from Cupertino....
and drives a WRX. We'll be at a Laguna Seca track day in early December.
I'll have the car as ready as can be by then. Should be way too much fun.
