Sears scratched wheel update!!!
Well, for those who care.........
I told sears that I wanted new wheels. Got the invoice from the dealer for 1200.00 bucks. The shop manager at sears, said he needs to look into having them repaired before he can talk about paying out. Apparently, they strip, repair, and recoat using oem urethane or whatever it is. Has anyone had experience with the "repaired" wheels??
By the way, the sears manager has been very professional about the whole thing which is a treat in this area.
I'll keep you posted!!

That is BS! They should replace them without reservation!
What are you supposed to do with your car when your wheels are being repaired?
What if the repaired wheels don't come out right?
What if after 2 years, the paint begins to chip abnormally, or discolor? Audi then says... hey they were repainted...
The sears mechanic gets to touch your car again?
Scary stuff... I don't care how professional and nice the guy is... he should graciously purchase you NEW rims, end of story.
It doesn't come out of his pocket.

You make one good point, but no way should they buy new wheels.
There's definitely an issue with what wheels you use during the repair/repaint, but there's no reason for Sear's to buy all new wheels. The purpose of a wheel is to hold a tire and attach it to a car. The wheels still work as intended, they are just scratched.
Would you demand a new door after someone dings it?

Actually... If you ding my door... Yes, I'll want a new door... and a piece...
or your hide...
Here's a famous Movie Quote to help make this point...
" 'Cause I will rip out your eyeballs and skull **** you!"
Get the picture Drew?
His wheels were undamaged before Sears sloppy mechanics touched them.
Maybe you'd settle for that... but not me...
I'd raise hell.

A friend of mine got a whole new set of Fittipaldis when a tire shop...
...scratched them. I couldn't even find the scratches, but they admitted they did it and bought him new wheels. My guess is they just turned around and sold them as used and didn't end up losing that much money. Good luck!

I have one
Just got my car back from an accident 1 mo ago. The front drivers wheel was scuffed pretty badly. They send locally (Detroit) for refurbishment. Looks like new. Especially if it is only a cosmetic blemish, a reputable shop should be able to make it look new. No different than bumping out some dings and repainting a panel.
