Default Secondary Air Flow on a A4 V6/5V

I have searched the forums until I can't see straight and I can't quite seem to figure this one out. I have a 2000 A4 V6/5V that has been throwing out the secondary air injection insufficient flow code. I clear it with the VAG and it comes on after a day or two. I found posts a plenty on how to remedy the situation for a 1.8T, but not the 2.8. The pump itself works fine and I even checked the small vacuum hoses that run from the two "disks" behind the manifold. No leaks there. Hoses from the SAIP to the air box and manifold are fine too. What is left to check??? I am stumped and ready to throw up my hands on this one. PLEASE HELP!!!

Default the combi valves may be beyond their useful life...

There are repair kits that include new combi valves and an air pump... it costs what a new air pump does.

Default its more of a v6 thing

I dont think there are kits for 1.8t's

I know there is one for the APB 2.7 and I believe there may be for the AHA and ATQ 2.8's

Default Re: its more of a v6 thing

Is that a dealer only item or can I find one elsewhere? Also, there are two combi valves on the 2.8 engine correct? What are the chances that I would get SAP insufficient flow codes for both banks and have it be two faulty combi valves??? I wouldn't be so skeptical that it was a combi valve if I was getting a code on only one of the banks. Two banks suggest a leaky vac hose or bad pump right? Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong. One more thing, there are two hoses running from the pump, one to the airbox and one to the front of the manifold. They are plastic. How does the air get to the combi valves in the rear of the maniflod? Are there other hoses that I have failed to check??? Can somebody elaborate??? Pictures would be awesome if anybody has any. Thanks

Default I don't have much experience with this system just yet

but my avant has a re-occuring fault which is caused by my pump failing. When I start my car it sounds like a jet engine... I simply don't care and I may at some point replace the pump and combi valves.

Default Update

I started the engine and placed a finger over the hose going from airbox to SAP. Plenty of suction. But the hose going from SAP to manifold had no pressure or vaccuum. So would I be safe to assume a bad SAP??? Can I do an output test with VAG to ascertain if the pump is indeed dead. Can someone with a little experience please help?

Default I'm in the same boat as you. I run output tests via VAG. select engine

then output tests then skip until you get the secondary air pump... it will trigger the pump every few seconds where you can see where the air is leaking. The only thing vag will tell you about the pump is "incorrect flow" I think you'll have to come up with your own conclusion as to how to fix it though.

I think mine is split. I feel the air suction but the air is blowing is all around the pump. and not the hose. I may investigate later this week.
Now, before I do... Do you know how those hoses come off the SAP? I haven't really looked at mine yet. Also, will I need to put it in service position to remove the pump?
Thanks and good luck to you.

Update 2: Finally figured out the Output test feature with VAG. It is the Secondary Air pump relay test that is supposed to cycle the pump on and off. All I heard was the clicking of the relay which tells me my pump is bad. I also checked all the Vac hoses and they are brittle and could have leaks. Mine is an 00 A4. Any chances the recall for the vac hoses would still apply??? Anyone know or care to comment???
