Default Security alarm goes off by itself

Hi,

The security alarm on my 2001 A4 1.8Q just goes off on its own (my observation so far is that it happens when its parked in the sun and have noticed it more often in the summer). All windows and doors are locked completely and I also hear the beep when I lock the car using my remote. When the alarm goes off, the turn-signals start flashing. Some times I have noticed just the turn signals flashing without the alarm going off (it probably does the alarm for some time after which it just flashes the turn lights I guess).

Worried it might one day drain my battery.

Any idea what might causing this issue ? Anything that I could do myself to find the problem out ?

Would appreciate any help here, thanks!

Default I have a similar problem but mine...

is only when the windows or sunroof is open its a real pain some times. Just think of it as a good thing no one will ever steal your car if your alarm goes off all the time

Default I've heard that a clogged sunroof drain will leak causing short of alarm

You could search the archives as that's where I recall reading it.

Easy fix, there's a write-up in the faq

you just need to push the button on your B pillar to disable the interior motion sensors

Default there is a button on the drivers side b pillar

push it when sunroof or windows are open and you don't want alarm going off...

Do you have your owners manual? It's in there

I am not sure how long how it would go on for, if left unnoticed.
When I see it happening, I press one of the buttons on my remote and it stops immediately. If it goes on for a long time, would it drain the battery ?

Default Could be the hood microswitch

Mine was acting wierd for a few years. Turned out to be a bad wire.

Fricken thing would go off randomly. It would also not beep oor flash when I locked it sometimes

Default pull the codes with a VAG-COM

I had an absolutely infuriating problem with my alarm randomly sounding. Turned out it was the hood switch. It's sort of like a plunger, which is pushed down by the hood, except I'd broken it off. This meant it sometimes made contact but occasionally wouldn't. Oh and FYI, unplugging the hood switch will disable it.

Default Re: there is a button on the drivers side b pillar

Thanks for the idea Mr.Mom !
I checked my manual and tried it out. The small light next to that button never came on when I pushed the button. Also, the manual says that when the button is pushed, the small alarm indicator lights (on the front doors, next to the door **** that blink when the system is armed) come on for 3 seconds. That did not happen either when I pushed the motion sensor deactivate button (tried multiple times).

Any idea what might be wrong here ?

That's what caused mine earlier this year.
