Default Should I.....or Shouldn't I.......

Replace my Transmission Fluid (Manual), and Differential Fluid.

I am at 163K on my '98.5 2.8L and have never touched these fluids. It's my undersatnding they are Lifetime Fluids.

Am I just opening up the proverbial "Can of Worms" if I change these fluids or would it be alright to go for it? Any problems I should anticipate? Seals are good so far.

I hope to get at least another 100K miles out of this car.

Default It depends on what Audi means by

LIFETIME....

I'm curious to try the manual Transmission fluid by Royal Purple but I'm in the same boat as you... I don't want to mess anything up.

I have seen a lot of praise for Royal Purple fluids in the Archives.

Default STFA. This has been covered many a times

ZF, the transmission maker, recommends a fluid change interval of 30k miles.

Audi, the installer of the transmission, says lifetime.

Pretty easy to figure out which one to listen to.

I would drain the fluid, drop the pan, clean the magnets so they don't look like Sonic the Hedgehod, replace the filter and pan gasket. Refill with X qts and done!

What is the filter like on the manual transmission? Is it just a screen?

Default When in doubt on fluids/lubricants, search for posts by audi junkie.

The guy is a savant.

What about it? If you removing the pan, the seal should be replaced, regardless of it's condition.
