Should I turn off the engine when filling up with gas?

It's the fact that you have a very efficient connection between your car and... (more)
...the gas station's fuel tank system, which contains massive amounts of gasoline. You're adding the equivalent of thousands of full tanks of gas to the equation, should an ignition occur. Makes it seem worthwhile turning the engine off, doesn't it?

c'mon stop the scare tactics....
Just as I suspected, no good answer on how this could happen.
Look at a car race (Nascar or Indy) cars don't blow up!! Once in awhile there would be a fire in Indy races, but that was because when the hose was pulled out to early, gas literaly spilled all over the rear engine!
Let's be somewhat rational about this.

HELLO?? think about this....please...
Why would my car cause a fire or spark because it was running?
My engine is in the front of the car, not by the gas tank. If you try to tell me that the spark caused by a sparkplug in the engine, I don't think so. If that was true, whenever another car drove up next to me while I was fueling I'd be in danger of there "running" car, blowing up the gas station.
Please people, let's think a little more about what we're saying.
