Default Should I use genuine ECT sensor or compatible one?

**********
my original query

how many PIN in Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor for A4 1.8t 1997? I bought a two PIN from Ebay by using seller's tool to identify proper sensor. (I paid it without checking in my car) I found the ECT sensor in my car which right locating in the end of engine under the air hose. HOW COMES IT GET FOUR WIRES????? DOES IT MEAN I NEED A 4 PIN SENSOR FOR REPLACEMENT?

SOMEONE WHO SUGGESTED ME TO GET A GENUINE SENSOR BECAUSE IT IS NOT EXPENSIVE PART. So I contacted a dealer for the sensor, I was told $110 for it while I can get a compatible one for $20.

I would like to know what major difference between such a genuine sensor and compatible one?

It's two sensors in one , one for the temp gauge and one for the ECU.

$110 sounds ridiculous even from a dealer.

There are other choices other than E-bay/ Dealer.

Check the VIN there to see which one.

These are for the V6, if yours is the 1.8T you can adjust the site, but I'd say these are all in the $20 range, and they tell you the VIN split.
