but the RS4 bumper sits low so those side skirts will match it best.

No its not necessary but they make the car look cleaner with them on

the reason i ask is becuase i agree with you on the fact that with the front bumer as low as it is you really need the side skirts.

do you feel the same way about the rear apron? i'm not sure if the s4 rear for instance would be low enough

If you run a S4 rear apron with a Rieger side skirt you run into the same issues as teh front the side will hang too low compared to the rear.
