Sigh, I drove a friend's EDIT *2005* WRX today...
I forgot just how weak my stock A4 brakes are. I forgot how heavy/piggish the car is. Forgot how sloppy/insensitive the steering is. Forgot the level of road-to-driver disconnect there is. Forgot how sluggish the stock 2.8 motor is. Forgot how long the throws are on the stock five-speed gearbox. And wow, the stock leather seats offer NO lateral support; but I knew that already.

Ordering the H-Sports front and rear swaybar next week after the holiday.
Hoping the stock S4 upper control arms will tighten up the steering a bit. Time to order them with the H-Sports
SERIOUSLY thinking about the Porsche Boxster front brake kit.
MUST ORDER JHM short shifter
Excuse the whining........

Many of the characteristics I experienced today on the Subaru can be achieved . . .
with the modifications I mentioned as well as additional mods. I simply drove a car that is much more sporty than mine and I'm looking to move my Audi in that direction.
Don't worry though, my silver-finish beat her white paint job easily :P

Also substantially more expensive than a 10-year-old 30v is now, and far less comfortable on the hwy
to drive.
And your car shouldn't be that much heavier than an '06 WRX.
Took me 15 minutes in a new 08 WRX hatch to appreciate my 140,000 mile AWM 1.8T...

Did the A8 brake upgrade a few months back; no regrets. Easy, fairly cheap, big jump in pwr
I'm definitely loving it. Think I spent like 250 all told. Was done in just over an hour, ne need to rebleed, etc. Think about it....

I hear you; the Porsche boxster upgrade is kinda like an A8 SUPER upgrade in that
it uses the A8 rotors but with the 2-pot (I think?) Boxster calipers. I'm going to be tracking the car a bit so going straight to Porsche front brakes might be the best bet. I dunnoz.
Oh, and my friend mentioned she upgraded her brakes to STI four-pots. I can't remember if they're J-spec but in any case, crazy nice brakes with Axxis Ultimate pads. Massive stopping power.

Your sig says it all; your car is no longer stock and much more a super sport model...
The WRX I drove weighs around 3,200 pounds. My 2.8 is around 3,400 pounds. Thirty more horsepower (forgot torque numbers)on the WRX. Her Mitsubishi turbo displayed minimal lag and the car just pulled really well past the 3,500 rpm mark. Her only deficiency is the use of all-season tires but that's because she drives all over and into snow country in the winter so that's her choice.
We both know it's an apples and oranges comparison.
Hmmmm, as much as I like my sunroof......the added weight up high...... d'oh
