Default The circumference of all 4 tires should be within 3%

That's if you have a quattro. It's been mentioned on this site quite a few times. You can do a search and find specific instructions. Unfortunately, I'm terrible with the search function...

Default Your okay with one brand new tire. You have open diffs front and rear....

as long as the new one doesn't spin slow enough to activate the brakes(EDL) on the opposite wheel, which it won't, your okay. No damage to anything.
