Default Not unheard of for the rear diff seals to leak/weep. From what I gather having a dealer replace a

seal is $$$$$$$$$$ tho ..

Default Pretty common...

The area where the axle fits into the rear diff is a pretty common leak. Dealer cost is about $250 for each side. There is no overlap in labor if you're doing both sides...so $500 or so for both.

A friend of mine had this issue on his 98.5 2.8 last summer I think. He already had one side leak, dealer fixed under warranty I think...then the second side leaked out of warranty.

Default I was quoted "Something less than $200 with tax."

Since he didn't know the part cost exactly, he didn't want to commit to an actual quote.

Default If you loose enough fluid you will frag the rear diff. If it is just weeping not so much worry but

you should keep an eye on the level.

Default VW dealer on the island. RJM is looking into an out-of-warranty good will repair since the car

still has <50K miles on it.

Default That is one of the nice things about Tony

His department certainly goes to bat .. hard .. for his customers. He got AoA to goodwill a radiator replacement on my car at 60,000 miles as the seam was begining to split. No leaks just starting to seperate. From what I read here, most dealers would tell you to take a hike.
