Slotted rotors, which way should slots face?

If the rotors aren't directionally vanned
Just got my A8 slotted rotors/boxster fronts & my S4 rear slotted rotors/calipers
Going to paint them this weekend and will do the install next weekend

you can see from the pic that the outer edge of the slot gets completely covered by the pad, where the inner part of the slot is exposed at all times. with the slots facing forwards, the trapped part of the slot (gases and dust) would be driven inward and out during braking. with the slots facing the other way, the gases and dust would be forced outwards and trapped in the slot until they cleared the pad.
