Slowing my car down with 18's?

I've read that 18" wheels are for show and will noticably slow down your car. I own a 2001 1.8tqm with the 16" sport wheels. I heard they weigh about 20lbs, and my 18" rims weigh 24lbs. If the low profile tires are lighter, shouldn't the overall weight be equal or less to that of my stock set-up? Will i still notice a difference?

and for 18" wheels, all the weight is concentrated further out, so there will be more centrifugal force while its spinning. That means that you will feel the difference MORE. So even if 18s and 16s weight the same, since 16s weight is more concentrated in the center, there will be less centrifugal force while its spinnig, making it easier to slow down and speed up. If you want your car to perform to the max, you want your wheels to be as small and as light as possible. I am actually playing with the idea of getting 17s for my S4 as track wheels. I found a set that will clear 14" brake...

Instead I would look at the amount of torque needed to turn the wheels- A higher circumference needs more power to turn at the same rate as a lower one.

an 18" wheel/tire combo which weighs the same as a 16" wheel/tire combo will most likely be noticably slower.
in your case, you will notice a big difference.
