Hi,
I am new to Audi B5 and I am trying to decide on what chip to get for 1.8T 2001 A4? I know this topic has been beaten to death, but I am not looking for the most power out of a chip and want to know the BEST chip that produces similar smoothness as the stock chip, eventhough it could be at expense of losing a few HP. So, what's the smoothest chip out there with least problems of them all. I know MTM, APR, GIAC, Wett, ABT, AMS (not too sure if it's the same as ABT chip for US)?
Thanks a lot

I have an ECU chipped w/APR + EMCS and an ECU chipped w/GIAC X. The APR is very smooth and the EMCS allows me to switch between chipped and stock programs, and has fault code erase which is handy to have. The GIAC chip is also smooth, but it seems to push a higher level of boost. The X chip IMHO pulls better than the APR. I had the APR @ first, very driveable and reliable. Got the GIAC a few months ago, very happy with it... wish it had options like ECMS.

I've got one right now, either my MAF is FUBAED, or this chip is not smooth like I'd like it to be.
There is a stairstep in the throttle response. Below it you're smooth but barely moving. Above it, smooth power, but perhaps a bit too much power. It's hard to accelerated matching the speed of that minivan in front of you...![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
They said it's not normal, and suspect it's the MAF. The could be right. *shrug*

when i first got my apr chip i had a problem muck like you describe. when i put in a tt bpv this was much reduced. and it's only $30 or so. try this first as you'll want one sooner or later!

I just had the Strat Hyperboost BPV put in my 97. I've had it chipped for a while, but I've been missing out. The car feels soooo much smoother now. It used to be really punchy. Now boost comes on smoother, and holds longer and better. I should have pulled the stock BPV a long time ago.
