What do you guys run? I am from New England, most of you know that. I have some pretty agressive snow tires, Artic Alpine - Snow/ice tires.
Well how bad does it get down here in PA? Is there a lot of snow or ice like new england. Im just wondering, I already own them, just need to decide when to put them on.

Seems like we've gotten one, maybe two storms a year that are worth anything. I don't see the value in running snows 100 days a year and only needing them twice.
That said, another huge reason I don't run snows is that I live in an apartment and don't have room for an extra set of wheels/tires. But even if I had a house, I still probably wouldn't run snows here. JMHO.

<40 degrees. I have a track weekend at The Glen on 10/19-20 and my original tires (Bridgestone Potenza RE040) don't have much tread left on them with 20k miles on them with track days, Fun Runs and me just having fun. Honestly, I'm surprised they lasted this long. I think they have a 140 AA A rating. Anyway... I plan to be putting my winters on after that event. Last year, I think I only really needed them once in Philly. I do drive to upstate NY and LI, NY as well as central PA. I did need them when traveling out of philly. Also, I got to use them at the QC winter event in NH.
Have you seen your car yet? Mine is going there after The Glen event.

We usually don't get our first snow until after xmas, and the temps don't stay consistently low until Early to mid December (which is usually when I put the snows on). Last year was unusually warm, so I didn't install the snows until January.
As far as whether you need them...we usually see pretty mild accumulations, a bit of slush, and PA in particular sees a good bit of ice on overpasses when it snows (PennDOT isn't exactly good about salting the roads). A set of all-season tires would work most of the time, except that you'll need added traction to avoid all the people that FORGET how to drive in the snow EVERY YEAR (actually, I think the problem is that they never learn). So, winter tires are always a better choice, imho.

Even if I didn't drive to the snow, I would still use snows here as precaution. Yes, last year was a complete joke as far as winter goes, but 2 years ago was pretty cold and snowy. I remember a few days coming home from work being very thankful I had the snow tires. As far as timing goes, it all depends on the weather pattern, but Thanksgiving weekend is a good bet. It could be 70 or it could be snowing.

I'm buying a new set of snows this year...that means, it will not snow! Trust me, somehow, everytime I buy a set of snow tires, this pattern holds true! Save your money people!
