Default Snowflake (A/C) icon on climate control - even with heater on? Normal?

It was around 45 degrees this morning. I go into the car, set the climate control for 70 degrees. After about 2-3 minutes, the heater kicks in, the warm air starts flowing. I look down to adjust the temp a bit, and I see that the snowflake icon on the bottom left is still showing. Is this normal?

Yes, normal. You can shut compressor off by pressing snowflake.

If I shut my compressor off manually while in auto, it'll stay off unless I hit Auto again.
