Default Snub Mount Installed - Lift Engine?

Hi,

Intalled the front engine mount (snub mount), and the improvement I feel is rather emotional than real. What was the problem before? I felt there was a lot of up-down play when accelerating/decelerating. I used as replacement the mount that dealers sells.

Just to clarify. The inside part of the bush fits in the air/intercooler pipe. The external side of the mount sits on an oval bracket bolted on the engine.

Now, the bracket does not have a fixed position. You can slide it up or down, before tightening the bolts.

I pushed the bracket as up as possible (put a jack under the bracket while tightening the bolts)and then tighten the bolts. That mean the engine will sit tight ON the braket normally, right? or Wrong?

Is that good or bad?

The gear change is more stiff, but the up-down play is still there.

Motor mounts? Transmission mounts?
Fitted the snub mount wrong?

Default how old are your motor mounts? Have you noticed any purple goo on the under

side of your car? I would have started with motor mounts first before replacing the snub mount.

Default A few things...

The snub mount the dealer sells is probably stock replacement. Aftermarker ones like APR, Purems or 034 snub are Much stiffer because they use polyurethane. With an aftermarket snub you will feel more of a difference in the reduction of slop in the drivetrain.

How many miles do you have? Stock motor mounts?

Default you should aim for equal gaps around the bracket.

on accel i think the engine pivots back, so you adding gap to the top of the bracket would make things worse.

Default my mechanic told me that a worn snub mount allows the engine to tilt back and forth too much, often

being the cause of the rear left and right motor mount breaking (purple goo leak).

I am planning to replace both snub mount, rear left/right motor mounts, and install a rear diff power ring; all in a effort to reduce/eliminate drive train slop, noticeable between accel and decel (throttle vs. coasting).

Default I would say all mounts wear out with time and use...

I felt a huge improvement when I upgraded to S4 motor mounts and 034 snub mount. I did the motor mounts one weekend and snub the next. I could feel a nice improvement after each one.

Remember though replacing with stock parts will bring you back to stock firmness. If you want to eliminate/reduce slop you may want to consider upgrading while you are replacing.

Good Luck.
