Default No, totally different engines.

The Audi 12v 2.8L engine is a 90 degree engine and is basically the same block as the newer 30v engine. The VR6 is a 15 degree engine with a siamesed head. It can almost be thought of as a staggered inline engine as much a V.

Default Nope! Audi V6 is a standard configuration with...

...two heads, while the VR6 has a common head and a narrow angle. The VR6 was designed so that it would take up little more space than a 4 cylinder, and so it's actually almost an inline 6, but the cylinders are V'd just enough so that the length can be reduced. HTH!

My vote is for the VR6, lots of low end torque

Default I say the Audi

A lot of people say the VR6 has a lot of low-end torque compared to the Audi V6. According to the numbers I've read the 12V Audi engine and the VR6 were pretty much the same in hp and torque. The VR6 was always installed in lighter cars so it seems more powerful.

The Audi engine seems to live longer. I've seen and heard of some Audi V6's going way past 200K but I haven't heard the same for the VR6.

The fact is it probably doesn't matter since a the engines aren't interchangeable in the same car.
