Default So the check engine light flashes...(more. please read)

The engine runs rough, sounds like misfiring. Stalls on me. About an hour later as I'm waiting for the flatbed, I started it and the engine smoothed out and the CE light is no longer flashing. Should I still have it towed to the dealer? Its about 6 miles away.

Better safe than sorry, get it towed.

If it runs smoothly, you can drive, but if it acts up really badly, stop and call a tow truck.

Default Mine's done this a couple times in the past 3 weeks.

Start up car, let it run 30 secs. Back out driveway to end of street stop sign... very rough idle/stumbleing... check engine light began to flash on the 1st encounter, I just pumped the gas a little bit, it seemed to clear up, light went out. Did not do this until yesterday morning again no check engine light, but same situation. I put Vag-Com on it, shows 2 DTC's, intermittant misfire, and cylinder 3 misfire. If it happens one more time, stock ECU goes back in and next stumble, it goes back to dealer. I thought the 1st time might have been bad gas, but this is 2nd tank on newly picked Sunoco station with 94 octane gas. Now I'm suspecting a bad coil or something...
Car is 2001.5 with 9800 miles.

Default If you have a 2001, it's probably a bad ignition coil. Get it fixed ASAP. It's a warranty item.

A couple of us have seen this. I've lost 3 coils in the last two months and i have 27K miles on my car. It would be nice to see a theme here, as I would like AOA to admit this is a defect in their coils.

Incidentally, the replacement coils seem fine.
