So does a Generic OBD2 Reader work for the VAG codes?
Sorry, maybe i'm confused, i haven't used a VAG, but i know that my local Advanced Auto has an OBD2 reader. Will that read / clear all the same codes as the VAG-Com would? I'm not looking for all the graphing and other capabilites of the VAG, i just want to be able to check codes myself, and see about clearing this Airbag light...Thanks...

It will read generic codes (OBDII) but OBD is mainly to do with emissions.
I am not sure if it will clear every code. I have the unit from OBDtool.com (about $70) and it seems to read clear all the codes (Audi codes not generic OBD) but has no code lookup so I have to check the code in a Bentley manual.

A generic OBD code reader will only do the drivetrain modules, i.e Engine and Transmission
It will not scan any other control modules in the car, only a VAG-Com can do that.

Alright...thats the kind of info i was lookin for...thanks..
I guess i might try and find someone in the Central PA area who has a VAG-COM and wouldn't mind helping me troubleshoot this.
