Default Honestly I can't, when I bought the car the rear calipers were seized up...

so I replaced everything with S4 parts. those were actually probably my first "mod" on the car...I don't really know how the car felt with stockers, so I can't really comment.

doubt it, that kind of heat does not come from running rich

Default doesn't the black cylinder heads usually mean that its running rich?

i just can't figure out what would have make that valve break like that.

Default I found several websites with pics of damage similar to yours

Mostly aircraft engines and motorcycles (google piston dmamge lean)

all of them point to two causes, mostly #1

1 - lean mixture
2 - excessive spark advance

black cylinder head is from the burning metal. Sooty black cylinder heads are from too rich.

the valve broke from the extreme heat more than likely.

Do a search for the pics from Tom Ritt's melt down. Very similar to yours.

Default yikes... dropped an exhaust valve :-\ sux dude, sorry...

I've seen that on an I5 (Javad's @ 034) Could be caused by a fault in the valve itself, lean or excessive spark advance (like said before)... that must have made an interesting bang when that went down though.

Default I have S4 rears on both of our A4's mine I haven't upgraded the fronts yet

the balance change is not noticable even in winter icy driving, on her car I have the upgraded fronts (tt carriers larger rotors) and S4 rear braided stainless lines and Axxis ceramics front and rear. Her cars braking is nice, very nice. She noticed it right away and her statement was that this is the way the car should have come. Well worth doing. ~$300 for front upgrade $130 for r&r pads $150 for lines, and $250 for complete(used)2-S4 rears calipers, dust shields, and rotors.

Default You say you found metal from the turbo in the intake tract? Maybe that's how it happened?

Metal goes through from a fubar turbo, gets stuck in the valve and breaks the head off? Just a shot in the dark...........

And, man that sucks---Sorry! ;-( Good luck with future plans.....
