Default 96....... ottawa we have a problem

I could be wrong, and I hope I am... but I have doubts as to the compatibility of that remote and the 1996 locking system.

You are correct, 96's won't work with the newer switchblades

Default um switchblade keys use a different key blank too!

the two are nothing alike. If you're crafy you might be able to weld a 96 key blank to the base of a switchblade key blank, that will work.

However the remotes arent alike, you basically need to get the remote system from the later A4.

The 96 remote is $135 us dollars locally. I know because I bought one.

Default negative ghostrider.

I tried programming my gf's jetta key with trunk release to work as a secondary key to get me into my A4 occasionally.

Doesn't work. The FCC ID numbers of the keys must be the same to match...

That being said, the '96's had different keyless entry systems, right, and it was a option? As well as the key blank is most likely different, as the '96 also had a more standard key cut.

Default You can remove the pin from the new key and dremel the old key stock to fit.

There is a web page around here some where.

As for the remote portion. It will not work with the system you have. SOrry, I tried as well.
