so i bought this switchblade key with trunk release for 55 bucks from ebay for my
96 A4...... i can program everything except the trunk release right??? it is being shipped out yesterday from Ohio to Ottawa using UPS..

ah oh.. huston we have a problem!
we have a problem then.. but i do have a remote right now.. may be i can exchange guts - really.. with a dramel and some work i'll just exchange guts and rewire (should be that hard).. i just love the look of a switchblade...

um switchblade keys use a different key blank too!
the two are nothing alike. If you're crafy you might be able to weld a 96 key blank to the base of a switchblade key blank, that will work.
However the remotes arent alike, you basically need to get the remote system from the later A4.
The 96 remote is $135 us dollars locally. I know because I bought one.

I tried programming my gf's jetta key with trunk release to work as a secondary key to get me into my A4 occasionally.
Doesn't work. The FCC ID numbers of the keys must be the same to match...
That being said, the '96's had different keyless entry systems, right, and it was a option? As well as the key blank is most likely different, as the '96 also had a more standard key cut.

hey phil.. so can i just swap the newer remote system?? is it just
the box underneath the back seat?? my 96 already have a remote... it has that box - may be i can sell mine and buy the newer remote system?? tia

You can remove the pin from the new key and dremel the old key stock to fit.
There is a web page around here some where.
As for the remote portion. It will not work with the system you have. SOrry, I tried as well.
