She wants to trade in her 1999 blazer (its a piece if ****) and my stepdads 1995 2-door tahoe for an off lease 03-05 4 door tahoe, and she will take over my pathfinder because she loves it and i pretty much dont drive it at all, like maybe 2 times a week and its up for sale anyway.
So that means I may be in the market for a beater/ commuter for fairly cheap money.
Think itd be a stupid idea to get a 1.8T 5 speed passat?
parts interchangeability is a plus and they can be had for cheap. I was thinking of maybe a 96 or 97 12v A4 for around th same money and less tempting to Mod.
this thing is for sale for $4k OBO LOL, i figure talk down a little then sell rims and tiires and it could be had for around $3k

Its ghetto I know, but for a commuter, who cares.
so the question is A4 12v manual quattro or passat 1.8T manual?

sister in law had a 99 1.8T Tip... fvck that thing was a piece of ****. Interior = horrible... then there were all the problems. Not regular 1.8T things... just tons of little problems. If i were you i'd follow bsk and get a bike. OR another audi. If u just want something to drive around get something reliable... civic/corolla/matrix etc.

to me audi and commuter car don't really go together. The 12v has the same control arm, tre, uplink problems as all. Also needs timing belt changes, it will last longer then a 1.8t one but why chance it. Just too many potential problems to be a commuter car. As a second car I think it's fine, but for a car I want to get in drive 5 days a week, and only change tthe oil basically I would get a Toyota.

THIS is a beater...
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/21175/img_0400.jpg">
get a car that's slow, gas efficient, etc... well, the 4000 5 cyl is not gas efficient, but you get the point. though I love the 12v, it's not the greatest commuter for gas prices, plus if it breaks, it's just as expensive to fix as any other car. Like the others, pick up a $hitter trecel (no offense edness :-P), civic, corolla, etc for a few grand... hell, even a metro :-P

I guess I can too.
Actualy my buddy will soon be looking to get rid of his 94 integra GSR
Its got a buncha dents, but it has a recently rebuilt head, its already lowered and has a few goodies.
I can prob pick it up for a couple grand, and ill prob most likely end up turboing it, but not until i go BT on the A4, cnat ahve the beater being faster than the A4.
