Default So I think my tranny is leaking! Does this sound right?

I'm leaking fluid pretty bad, I'm 99% sure the leak is from where the Driverside axle, where it bolts to the tranny.

The fluid it is leaking is an oil, color is very transperant, and slighty dirty, does this sound like auto tranny fluid?

Any idea how much labor would be involved to replace the mentioned seal?

Thanks

Yes sounds like it's from the diff. Seal is not that bad a job to DIY.

Default Think the dealer would do it for an hour of labor?

Definatly looks easy from my audi service manual. Only thing I'm still not clear on is the fluid that is leaking. Is it tranny fluid, if so does that mean draining all the fluid? Remember I'm an auto.

Also, would a clicking sound from turning be related, or totally different problem?

Finally, safe to drive, or just wait to get fixed? It's leaking about .5-1 oz a day for the last 36 hours.

Thanks

Default g-052-162-A2 is the fluid and the seal is not in my brain but I believe it is an 01V specififc seal

and I think the 01V's are L/R speciffic too.

Default Thanks qfrog

So you think an hour of labor is resonable? Also do I need to drain the tranny fluid and replace?

Thanks

Default OK--->

I doubt they can do it in an hour, dealer=nothing takes only one hour. It's probably a 2-2.5 hour job maybe? I'm not sure honestly but it's not that bad a job FWIW.

The seal is keeping fluid in your differential, it's not tranny fluid leaking out (at least it shouldn't be!) It should be gear oil.

Sound is probably not related unless you're REALLY low on fluid... sounds more like a bad CV joint or other issue. "Clicking" is a very very vague term and over the web is rather hard to diagnose!

Safe, yes... as long as not too much of the fluid is gone. Chances are it's fine. If you're worried pull the fill plug and check it/fill it up with synthetic gear.

Default fluid is expensive $20 or so per liter

labor is subject to what the tech working at the dealership wants for his time to do that on your car.

Default SO is it a tranny fluid or gear fluid being replaced and how much fluid?

Again, the leak is on the DS front axle where it bolts to the tranny. What color is each of the two fluids? Fluid being leaked is almost clear and slighty black.

Sorry for being redundant, I'm just not getting the answer, lol.

Thanks
