near where it bolts up to the engine, and the source of the oil seemed to be that location.. would you guess rear main seal?

When they leak out of the front seal it is a similar result as an imput shaft eal going bad. If your clutch pedal is on the stiff side , then its a good posssibility.

And made a filter + filter oil catch out of a 1 gallon container that fits on nicely so I get 0 dribble.
I did clean off all the oil last time I changed and behold it's back :-(
