So lets play guess that sound....
Well a while back I posted about this noise, and upon using the searhc button think I may have narrowed it down, but I wanted to ask you guys:
Ok, when I start the car up after it has sat for a long time, usually over night, there is a loud , airplane like, noise that comes from directly under my airbox. This only happens when the car is started when the engine has not warmed up. But after about a minut and a half, the rpms drop down to normal idle and the sound goes away.
So, could it be the secondary air pump? I did a search for it and some people had similar symptoms, but they also had a CEL, which I dont.
Any suggestions, oh yea, its a 99.5 2.8QMS
Thanks guys

I guess secondary air pump
When the car sits overnight it does a "cold start". During this minute and a half that you're talking about the secondary air pump is open and yours is probably making some sort of noise. I noticed that my car cold starts when it is 30-55 degrees Farenheit, but does not cold start when it is below 30. Seems weird to me.

as the others said, it's the air pump. mine has done it for 2 years...don't worry til if or when
you get a CEL. Mine is very loud and if someone hears it wind down, they ask what the hell it is.

air pump
mine kicks in for about 30-45 seconds whenever I start the car after it has been sitting overnight or while I've been in the office all day. It's been that way ever since I had a FMIC installed. No CEL. After five years, it now makes a slight electronic buzzing sound and a little more hissing -- maybe a leak? But still not CEL. Plus my door lock motor has been running extra long. Anyone know if the pump is related?

Definitely the seccondary air pump and an easy fix too. There's a recall on the vac lines....
Go to any dealership and they'll fix it for free. Don't wait til you get a Cell though. You could burn the pump out but I've never heard of that happening.

the lock thing is not related, that's the central locking pump in the trunk...look for the
leak asap because that is an expensive pump to replace and it will eventually burn out.
