Someone is selling 225 pirellis for pretty cheap...250 bucks...is it worth it to spend a few hundred more on wider tires? i have 8.5 inch wide rims so i kinda wanted more lip protection, but i dont know if its worth another 200 or 300 bucks...thoughts?

Default I would not mount 225's on an 8.5" rim...

the sidewall of the tire should be vertical under ideal conditions. Also most tire manufacturers will spec 8.5" as the max rim width for a 225 tire, you'll find that the tire is fairly "stretched" to accomodate the wider rim. 235 should be the ticket...however, if you're lowered, you may need to roll the fenders as a result.

tire definitely is not stretched to fit the rim.

Default The only exception I have ever seen is an S03...and even that is a bit stretched.

The only reason I can understand you saying that, is that this issue could be a matter of interpretation. There are a lot of people that drive around with 225 and 8.5" rims, and they claim it's fine...while I'll look at it and shake my head.

Default my side walls are perfectly flat they are not stretched at all. i am changing to 235's...

next set of tires but thats just because my fenders have been rolled and rubbing isnt an issue, 18x8.5" 32mm offset

I'm not going to argue with you...my recommendation to Howie stands.

Default i would say 235'sare a better bet though, i would say it depends on the tire...

although 225mm is just about 9.2" so i can see why it would be streched on an 8.5" rim.

i will say that the 235's are probably the way to go since you dont get much rim protection with the 225's

with 8.5" wide rims, I would use the 235's instead of the 225's
