So strange how it's never the dealers fault....(longish)
I went back today to return the oil pan which was given to me buy the dealer. Upon explaining how I had given the VIN number and still received the wrong pan, the parts lady that sold it to me went back into her "staff only" parts area.
Then the parts manager came out and said " From what I understand you were animate about receiving an Oil pan for 2.8L 30V 98'." I said "yes when you run my vin that's what will show up, I needed that pan, however I was given the oil pan for a 12v V6." Then the wierd thing happened " Well this is the oil pan for the VIN you gave us, you wanted a 2.8L V6 oil pan and that is what you have" I was getting agitated and told her there was two different V6's ... I need the 30V. She then ran my VIN and showed me that I was given the 'correct' part. I told her to run the whole vin number not just the last few digits. (I guess she just ran the ones after the W). Anyways this is where her surprise came...
"oh well if you run the whole vin number then you will get this other pan... but we don't have it in stock, it will be in tomorrow. Next time don't ask for a V6 pan if that's not what you need" ... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH..... She was nice enough to give me 6qts of Mobil 0-40W though, since I had to change the pan twice.
I just don't get how she can be considered a parts manager. Another guy was bringing back a grill because he had asked for a lower centre grill, and was given the hood grill. Her response to him was " When you say centre grill... we think hood... next time say...bumper centre grill" I think he had the best response " How many grills are on the hood? Why would I need to say centre?" I felt so bad for the guy... I wished him luck. End rant

Just hit the parts department at a dealer in CO...
I never thought I would give them any business again (long story, but they were basically dueche bags.)
Bought a new gasket/seal thinger that sits between the engine and the oil cap. Blew me away when he sold it to me for $6 (whoelsale) vs. $16 (retail). May have had to do with an unusually long wait.
So now I like their parts department and still hate their service department. I will say thanks to the service department's deuche bagginess, I picked up a manual and a wrench....and for that I'm grateful.
