Took a trip down to my g/f's house for her brothers birthday. The first full tank of gas #'s worked out like this:
Note: Car is a 2001 1.8Q Tip with stock sport suspension. We had 2 small bags of luggage in the car, and the spare tire is in the car.
385 miles, 14.677gal/gas, 26.23mpg, average speed (according to computer = 72mph), actual highway speed was cruise control at 80mph.
20 miles of this tank was spent in local traffic and driving around an airport at 25mph for almost 30 minutes because we had to pickup some tickets, so that screwed with fuel economogy and average speed in the computer. I also did a little playing with the car to see what it felt like at high speeds and pushed it up to 105 twice. I didn't feel like going any faster on this trip.
After I filled back up, I put on about 150 miles at an average computer speed of 78mph with an average MPG of 28.8 according to the computer. Those #'s are pretty accurate, and I don't have the exact #'s to do my own math, but I was crusing for all of those miles at 78 or 80mph, and did no major high speeds. I think the fastest I went in these 150miles was 85mph just to pass people.
Car road very smoothly for the most part. On certain parts of road which had a lot of smooth bumps, the car did seem to float (like a boat) up and down, which was annoying, but those kind of road conditions are fairly rare.
Wind noise sucks IHMO. It's not that much better then my 88 Dodge. I hope they cleared this up with those big *** seals on the 2002 A4. I'm investigating a way to improve the doors seals on my car as well.
Road noise didn't seem to bad, but I don't have much to compare to. I have Dunlop 8000E's so I don't know if those are particularly noisy, quiet or inbetween.
The seats weren't as bad as I had expected them to be, but they could be better.
Over all, I'm very pleased with the car in ride, fuel economy, and comfort.

you guys are both manuals which is good for 1 more mpg rating (by the specs), and everyone says the chip hels fuel economy on regular driving. So that puts you guys about 2mpg above me, which figuring the above two things, makes up for the difference. I'd imagine the fact that you guys have 5 speed accounts for a bulk of that difference.
