I emailed someone from the website hoping to get more information about their product - well, basically anything because I cant read German - even so, their operations manual (with pics) looks good =) .

> Thank you for your interest. Audiworld.com is a nice forum. For the moment I'm
> working on the English version of homepage and manual. It will take a few
> days. Visit us later (www.zusatzinstrumente.de).
>
> Some features of EFU (very short):
>
> Available since July 2002
> offers functions of up to 8 auxiliary instruments
> shows all values on the central digital display
> the design of your car's interior will not be changed
> operation with the trip computer standard button
> expandable, racing setups available
> availible in several languages
> min/max hold functions
> alarm with user defined limits for every port
> 8 analog (3 used with the starter kit) + 8 digital ports
> possible logging on a pc via the optional pc adapter
> optional available: 2-axis-accelerometer, air intake sensor (temp, humidity,
> vacuum), pc-adapter
> software upgrade via pc adapter and internet
> custom software is available (i.e.: integration of an amplifier
> temp display)
>
> distributors in Germany, UK, Sweden, France
>
> future plans:
>
> searching for distributors in USA, Canada, Greece, Italy
>
> sensors for turbo temp, compass, oil pressure, ... integration of radar
> detectors, parc distance control, ... we'll see
>
> CAN version which uses the whole display, speech control, blue tooth
> integration, in-car-diagnostic, display external data (mp3, telephone
> no,...), simple installation without external sensor modules
>
> Upgrade available for customers of the current EFU.
>
>You can download the (German) manual here: > http://www.zusatzinstrumente.de/bedienungsanleitung.pdf.
> Short: EFU will be connected to the car via a cable adapter (shipped with kit). The
> sensor modules are fitted behind the cover of the feedroom (forgive the poor
> English). A cable (oil temp) and a vacuum hose (boost) are led to the engine
> (see picture in the manual). The oil temp sensor is to fit where the
> oil drain plug is. The vacuum hose comes with a T-fittings for boost/vac readings.
> All needed parts are shipped with the starter kit. For connection to the trip
> computers standard button you have to cut one cable (see pictures) and
> connect it to the EFU cable adapter. Press down side of the button = change
> Audi DIS, press upper side = change EFU display. Time for the complete
> installation is about 2 hours.
>
> We have tested the EFU in TT, A4, S4, RS4 and S3. But it should work in every
> Audi which:
> a) has the Audi DIS,
> b) has 3-line-bus, *)
> c) has NO big Audi nav (the small in the TT is okay).
> d) Radio Symphony, Concert or Chorus will be fine, because of the simple
> using of the cable adapter. Otherwise you have to search for the 3 data
> lines and the speed signal behind the instrument cluster.
>
> *) Every Audi has min. two CAN busses (drive + comfort). Since MY2002 the
> TT i.e. has a third CAN. It connects the radio to instrument cluster. The
> new A4 has it too. The current EFU needs the 3LB and doesn't work with the
> new bus. The current S4 and RS4 have the 3LB, because the new models are
> not released yet.
>
> I will keep you informed as I make progress with the website. Thanks.

Default Nope not easily done...we've been asked the same thing by customers

interested in our forthcoming product. We however plan to support those of you w/o a trip computer with an external LCD display.

James R.

Default I've been trying to find this out too.

There is a single connector on the back of the trip computer instrument clusters that is not on the non-trip computer instrument clusters. If this connector comes only from the stalk that controls the trip computer, it should be okay. If the wires in this connector come from more than one source, we're probably SOL.

I need to go to the junkyard and see if I can pick up a new cluster for cheap.

Default The wires come from all over the car...

they come from the trip stalk, they come from the radio...they come from the ECU and K lines...it would probably not be worth your effort.

On a pre 2000 car the connector had 20 stations, the newer cars have 32 stations, but not all of them are populated. Don't get me wrong, it could be done...just going to be a bit of leg work.

Default No prob...always happy to help

like I said we plan to have connection for a remote LCD so not all is lost for you guys, but it's not integrated in the cluster like TripComp DEI is.

BTW - We're in no way affiliated with Zusatzinstrumente DE, they're a competitor.

James R.

Default Remote LCD would be sweet..

That way I would be able to integrate it into something. We always find some way or another, right? This would be great. Id love to be updated.

Default Well you can always come to the website to see what's up

we're slow to update and we haven't been putting up much in the way of developments, everyone knows what we're up to...you will like it I'm sure.

www.tripcomp.com goto the support area and check out the forum, those who were at the BBQ will remember that we had presented some development hardware as well...it has changed a LOT :-) well you'll see...

James R.
