I remember that my A4 had 4" speakers in the front doors, which I replaced with 5.25" speakers utilizing an MBQ ring adapter.

I also remember that I wanted to install 6.5" speakers in the rear deck. But I don't remember if that's an even swap, or if I'll need adapters again.

I removed the rear speakers years ago and haven't had them since. And I just picked up a pair of 6.5" speakers. Do I need an adapter? Or will they mount right in?

I wanted to install the speakers today, so I removed the rear deck and looked around.

First of all, the rear deck is not flat. The mounting holes for the stock speakers are 7" apart (and there are only two of them). And they are elevated relative to where the speaker ring would sit. (The original speakers had tabs which extended beyond the speaker ring.)

So although I purchased 6.5" speakers, and they will "fit" in the stock location, will I need an adapter to get them to sit flat on the rear deck? Or do I need to build out the mounting location with some MDF?
