Default somewhat-loud turbo hissing with clutch engaged

Hi all

I noticed today that when I'm accelerating (at any rpm level) AND the Clutch is Engaged; I get a somewhat-loud hissing sound. I can only hear it when I'm driving next to side-walls, other cars, etc... I won't notice this sound if all my windows are up and I'm listing to music.

If I accelerate the Engine Without the clutch engaged; I don't get this sound. Also, I've had the Turbo changed about 1 year and a half ago..

Any suggestions?

Sound like your clutch throwout bearing will need replacing soon. What is the current mileage on the clutch? To verify raise the hood and set the parking brake, start the engine and have someone engage the clutch while you listen underneath the hood.

I had my clutch-kit replaced 40,000km ago (2 years) and my transmission also.

I'll try that out, but are there any other suggestions??

a quick note: Ive had my exhaust checked starting from the Cat and they didn't find any leaks, though sometimes I have this impression that it's leaking (sound) since it seems the engine "seems" louder. Any faulty gasket pre-cat would cause such noises??

Just so we are clear on terms, pushing the pedal in disengages the clutch, so no engine power reaches the trans; releasing the pedal engages the clutch, coupling the engine and trans.

So you are saying that accelerating under load makes the hiss. Revving the engine with no load results in no hiss, correct?

If so, this is consistent with a boost leak.

A little throwout bearing noise with the clutch engaged should not be a problem. If the situation escalates to the point where there is noise or vibration through the pedal with the clutch disengaged, then I would start worrying.

Indeed, hissing occurs with engine under load, not without.

Clutch pedal doesn't seem to have any symptoms mentioned earlier (vibration or sound).

I'll look / do a boost leak next week.

Also, could it be related to the intake??

Thanks for the input!
