Default Sound Like A New Clutch?

Hey.. does this sound familiar to anyone? I was pulling out of the driveway and as she was in first gear it sounded and felt like I ran over a brick in the road. I pulled over and now I can't switch into any gears with the car on. I have to shut off the car to switch into first or reverse gear, then start the car to and take off. I can shift from 1st to 2nd and 3rd, etc but it is not smooth and a bit difficult. Sound like it needs a new clutch??? Just fearing the worst here...

Someone just had this same problem maybe a week ago. I don't remember what they did though.

Default I had problem with clutch surface separating. Could row gears w/ car off, not on. (more)

It didnt feel or sound like I hit anything though. The clutch all of a sudden engaged at a much lower point and when I would let clutch out it would make grinding noise. Was southbend OFE stage 3 clutch.

When clutch just goes because old/worn out shouldnt have noise like that or anything. Clutch just engages late/slower and will slip if get on it. Putting car in like 3rd gear at 25mph and flooring it is one way to tell, if clutch is going/gone it should slip when doing this. Just an idea or two.

When my stock clutch went it was the second (right above) scenario. Upgraded conposite clutch was first scenario. Either way will probably have to remove clutch to see whats going on.

It's at least a recent issue, not one that last happened two years ago.

Default Re: Sound Like A New Clutch?

She is a 2001 2.8 5spd with 78000 on it. Clutch has not been acting any different up until this incident. I was pushing her a lil hard as I live on a 55 mph road. Something definately felt like it broke... was looking in the rear view for any parts in the road. I can easily switch through the gearbox with the car off. If I start the car in neutral, I cannot switch into any gear, so I have been putting it in 1st or reverse before starting the car. Another interesting observation is when I start the car in 1st or reverse she will start moving in either direction even though my foot has got the clutch pedal to the floor.

Default Weird, so its like clutch is partially engaged even w/ pedal at floor. Mine did this when seperated

based on what you are saying though I doubt it is similar problem (stock clutch w/ lot of miles vs organic compound one, yours wouldnt have seperation issues). Really not sure what other issues could be. Sorry
