The Speed Noise thread below made me think of this question....Just curious. Merry-Xmas
What the fastest you've gone, *in a car*, when NOT on a track?
I hit about 165-170 in a modded '96 TT 300zx once. Long straight road with not a soul for miles. Out by the dump in Tucson. The guy who owned the car proceeded to break the rear axle in a parking lot doing donuts later that night.
Also same speed again...maybe over 170mph in a new Merc. on the Bahn last summer on the way to Munich. I got passed, twice. Once by a B6 S4 that had to be creeping up on 200mph. Best time of my life.
No GPS. Just checkin speedo...

I expect I'll shatter that next year if I get a Z06. This type of horsesh!t only takes place on a straight stretch of a certain interstate when there are no other cars around. I wouldn't do it otherwise. I'll wear the label "stupid" with pride, but I'm certainly not a danger to others.

That's a very optimistic "indicated" speed ; ) I hit 174mph (indicated) on my 04 ZX-10R...
...and that was with about 2500 RPM left to redline. I believe the indicated top speed would be somewhere around 191 MPH, but the radar gun says actual top speed is 184 MPH. Of course, my ZX-10R is modded and got a 14HP gain to 167HP going to the wheel ; )
