Default Speed sensor or instrument cluster?

Need some help here regarding the speedometer, it freaked out out of nowhere. When it works and cruising on the freeway once I hit the gas it would go to zero but whenever I brake it would return to normal. I had the speed sensor replaced about 1k miles ago so could it be a defective sensor or there is something wrong with my instrument cluster? No check engine light no codes any ideas?

Did you check the instrument cluster fault memory?

ABS light or CEL would be on if it was the speed sensor.

Default It's not your sensor, and I'd bet it's not your cluster or wiring either.

There's a ring inside the trans that goes bad, loses it's magnetism or something, but it's the part that the speed sensor reads to create the signal. It can be replaced by removing the flange & flange seal on the driver's side. Should be about a 3-4 hour labor charge max, plus a seal, the part, and maybe some gear oil. Happened on my 5 speed, and one of the 6 speeds that have made thier way through my car.

Default Just looked it up, for a '98 A4QM........

for trans codes DJJ, DJR, DWR, and DWM, the part number is 012-409-182-B. I'd double check that though before you buy.
