Default Spilled pop in tiptronic shifter -- now tiptronic doesn't work

A few months ago i spilled pop(non-diet) on my center console, now the manual mode of the tiptronic won't work, only automatic. For a short time after when you would push the lever over it would change the dash display and it would shift, but only upshift (or was it only downshift?) Now it won't do anything when you move the shifter over... no change in the dash display, pushing up or pulling down doesn't shift gears, steering wheel buttons don't light or do anything.

I'm wondering what, if anything I can do myself to fix/clean to make it work again or if I'm off to the dealer? Thanks

Default you might be able to clean it yourself.

I never drop anything on it but i have had the liner and magnet wear out on me and I was able to find the part and replace it. Its that rippled cover that slides with the lever. I had the same prob.

Default I have a similar problem...I left an unopened can of coke in the cupholder in the dash and with...

the heat it literally exploded (75-80 degrees). It left my cupholder almost imposible to open (very sticky) and it operates only on HOT summer days or after playing with it for a while. My radio and climate control buttons are hard to push in, especially at night when it is colder. How would goo-gone work on these? Any advice would be appreciated.

Default You should be able to find a how-to for disassembling the shifter

try cleaning it out. The usual cause of what you are experiencing is bad magnetic switches.

It wouldn't be a problem if you had spilled "soda" instead of "pop"... j/k ;-)

Default I would suggest delicate parts cleaner to start. I have seen soda and coffee

spilled into video editing stations (damn faculty and students). We always start with a delicate parts spray cleaner. You can get it at Radio Snack for a decent price.

After that, start taking it apart and clean some more.
