What makes you say that? Its bad, but it drives fine, just really bad cosmetic damage...
Rip off sh*t parts, throw on good parts, good to go, no? I dont know much about this as this is my first accident, but i dont see the total damage being more than what the car is worth, that = totaled, correct?
I want to keep the car obviously. I have good friends that own a body shop. Any advice?

depends on your insurance company iirc.. but usually 50% of value = total loss
2001 a4 worth... what? 8k?
could you get that all repaired for 4k?
if so, props! I guess if you got used parts. But cutting/welding on the rear quarter = pricey
i'd be impressed if they fixed it
keep in mind everything you need
trunk lid
rear quarter
rear bumper
bumper "claws"
rear wheel well liner
tail light
possibly a suspension part or two
depending on how your body was rubbing, you may need new tires
paint
that's a big list

Im taking into account the "friends own body shop" factor and the "carson/audiworld" factor...
I hope that you are not right, but we will see what happens. Im still owe a good amount on the car, so totaling isnt really an option.

i guess u didnt read, in a pack of cars, following a truck, unplowed, straight long onramp...
speed wasnt the issue. I actually should have powered through it like others suggested, but i came off the gas. This happened while doing a simple lane change, going like 35 or 40 in 4th gear, with 6 other cars around me doing the same speed. I dont know. Ive dealt with many New England storms before, this wasnt even that bad. Im pissed and Im glad you were driving stupid and wrapped your car around a telephone pole. I dont think I was driving stupid. I lost traction and didnt react correctly and now i gotta deal with it. Thanks for the sage advice.

well, I lost traction too, didn't react correctly, and wrapped it around a pole
I drive plenty in the snow. I know to slow the hell down when crossing a snowbank into another lane...even if there's traffic around me. They can slow down too and let me make a safe lane change.
Don't let traffic around you dictate what you do.
