My car just started making these really annoying creaking sounds while moving the steering wheel at low speeds. Seems pretty common on the archives.
How do I know if it is control arms or the steering rack/ tie rods?
What are tie rods?
How bad is it to drive before I get it fixed?
I'm completely out of warranty; will dealer help pay?
Car is 98.5 1.8tqm, Much appreciated.

my car after about 4,000 miles on the new control arms they are squeakin again...I have no thoughts on the matter. I might try to change my suspension and see if it goes away.

If your noise happens only when stopped and turning, what kind of noise is it? Can it be heard from outside the car?

noise. It sounds like a boat creaking. I can kinda feel the creak in the steering wheel. Could this be tie rods?

My best guess is a lower control arm though..
Try to jack the car so the wheel is hanging free, then turn the wheel, see if the noise goes away..
