Steering wheel hum.....

I am feeling a hum in my steering wheel above 45 MPH. I just had the wheels balanced as there was a vibration in the wheel. The vibration has been reduced but there is still a very high frequency hum feeling in the steering wheel. Could this be my tires (Falken Azenis Sport)? Or, maybe I just need to go to a better place to get the wheels balanced, they used a very cheap looking machine. I am a bit confused by this feeling becuase it does not feel like the vibration from unbalanced wheels. What are some other things it could be? I was having a weird brake issue with a groaning and vibration after hard braking, but it has gone away now. Maybe the brakes are an issue?

and I can't remember if it was always like that or not. I know the A4 transmits a lot of feedback up through the steering wheel, but I don't remember it being as noticeable when I first got the car as it is now. I'd imagine that the hi-perf. tires intensify that steering feedback considerably. I just had my car aligned, the wheels balanced and the wheel bearings checked. The "hum" was reduced, but not eliminated.
