Default steering wheel jitters. help please...

the other night i noticed that my steering wheel was shaking almost violently at times in my hands. it only seems to do it when i'm going straight and not during a turn. the roads have been crap here in new york with icy hard snow. could it be an alignment problem that the hard snow caused or might it be something more serious? is it something i need to be careful of? i drive a lot for work and it was making me nervous last night on tricky roads.

Default Snow/ice on a wheel?? Take to the car wash and see if it helps....

Dan, did this just start to happen after a snow storm?

If it just started and was fine prior to the storm and you didn't hit anything....then I would go with the ice/snow build up on the wheels!! Those wheels have a tendency to attract snow and cause imbalances.

Default Bob is right on with this response!

The A4 wheels easily build up an accumulation of snow and ice in the inside. This will cause a severe imbalance. You might be able to break loose the chunks by hand if you can't get to a car wash. (If it is too cold the car wash water might freeze on the wheel and cause more problems).
